Live Webmaster Tool Provides a Clue
Anyone else having this problem?

We've been struggling trying to figure out why we don't rank for any search term in Live.com. We're not hoping for a windfall, just to be treated fairly.

I was using the new Live Webmaster Tool and I noticed that our top ranking pages for nearly any search term is an Excel or Word document - documents that we use to supplement some of our information (examples to download).

Anyone else seeing this pattern? I'm thinking about blocking MSN from my document downloads to see if that corrects the problem.

Same here. Our PDF return policy is the highest ranking document. I guess their penalty does not cover non-hypertext documents.

I would consider doing that if the downloadable content is similar or has more information it could well be giving that precidence. failing that re-evaluate the your html/web content.

My companys new website went live at the begining of last week an msn has started indexing it , we provide lots of pdfs fitting instructions and such but ill keep an eye on whats ranking, so far our keywords seem to be ranking reasonably well. no pdfs in yet
