Live Search Webmaster Portal (Beta) Reviews

Got my access to the beta webmaster portal today. I won't go into details, but does the basics one would expect including support for standard protocols.

As MSN/Live has never indexed more than 5-7% of my website, I'll be curious to see if their crawler makes full use of the capabilities.

I have received my credentials today and installed it on the site. I have tracked the data for a couple of days now and I have to say I am not impressed with this new tool.

MSN has to do alot more to get the tool up to speed with the likes of the yahoo! site explorer and esspecially the google webmaster tool.

It only gives up the obvious data that doing generic site search functions you can achive the same things.

One word: Awful.

I've returned to the site several times to see if they've added *anything* remotely useful. It's a joke.

The robots.txt Validator (or as they call it, the robot.txt Validator... I guess they only know of one) cannot even read my robots.txt file. I have to cut/paste? You have to be kidding me.

The 5-green-bar thingy jumps around continuously. One day, my top pages rank a 5-spot, the next day, it's white.

The Top Links To is a mess. I've got hundreds of inbound links. They show me exactly TEN, two of which rank 1-green-light. These are supposed to represent my "top ten"?

Not impressed, not even remotely captivated....

We've had problems adding sites. I added ours no problem, but as soon as another member of the company logged in on a nother machine, the site isn't there and adding it (or any other site) produces an error.

Do you think every user needs to add their own verification code? If so, then the guy that controls FTP on the site itself is going to start getting a bit upset.

It would help if the error message was more self-explanatory.

Another issue seems to be that we have two of our top pages listed as our domain name, whilst the other three are listed as the page title. Obviously the latter at lerast is unique.
