Here's the earlier story on Microsoft's so.cl
Microsoft So.cl: A New Way For Students to Collaborate [webmasterworld.com]
I like the way it's meant to be something new, as opposed to a Facebook killer.
|...designed to give students the ability to network with their peers to share information with Microsoft. |
I'm a stickler for accuracy so I thought I would complete that sentence, the bolded text is mine :)
|Microsoft refers to the network as "an experiment in open search," meaning searches will be viewable to other So.cl users and to third parties. |
I've played with it a little bit, but my initial impressions are that I wouldn't use this on a regular basis...not with the current feature set.
I also see no limitations for student use. I was able to log on with my Microsoft Live account.

Wow, how did you get an invite so fast?

I've just logged-in with my "Live" ID, no problem.
I can't see anything of interest either however I'll have a look around.
Got an invitation the following day I applied for it.
Not even sure I understand what I could do with it.
Not very enticing .
The profile has some bugs, tried in a few browsers to insert a 480 char and spaces txt but it keep rejecting me, stating that the txt is above 512 char!
Next the "chose your feed" roams and roams forever never allowing to enter the selected one.
What's your experience?
I'm still glad they're touting this as an experimental project, not meant for competition with mainstream SNS. It's just a bit too odd for me in terms of operation and settings compared to other SNS.
I can't put it in better terms, well said!
