| Microsoft reported a rise in quarterly profit on Thursday, boosted by strong sales of its Windows operating system, and the company raised its full-year profit outlook, sending its shares up 4 percent. The world's largest software maker said net profit in its fiscal second quarter rose to $4.7 billion, or 50 cents per diluted share, from $2.6 billion, or 26 cents per diluted share, in the year-ago period. Revenue rose 30 percent to $16.37 billion. |

"They continue seeing the business being healthy for the remainder of the fiscal year." a cash cow. and that is while still being a distant third on search and ads.

Revenue from "Online Services Business", which I assume is search engine and such, increased from $625 million to $863 million. This is a good 38% jump. On the other hand Google is likely to report revenues of $3.44 billion in last qtr. So MSN is not as far behind Google as we like to assume. [microsoft.com...] [finance.yahoo.com...]

What bodes well is the CE division remained in the black, last quarters profit wasn't a fluke as so many industry analysts portrayed. Zune & Xbox appear to be turning some cash in ;)

Not bad for Microsoft. But still money is easy for Google. Billions of dollars of profit from online advertising alone.
