name.dll - SharePoint sites and Microsoft want me to install it Will I regret it? Robert Charlton msg:4201914 1:14 am on Sep 15, 2010 (gmt 0) In several areas I'm working in, I've begun to encounter SharePoint sites wanting me to allow the add-on, name.dll. I'm not even quite sure what name.dll does. I'm still running Office 2003, XP SP3, and mostly try to keep ActiveX use to a minimum. How much am I going to be regretting it if I install name.dll ? What road is it going to take me down. ;) What functionality do I lose if I don't install it? This is just about my computer... not about those sites. I assume that's another forum.

I have come across this with several sites as well. One of the offices I support uses Sharepoint internally, and after getting the prompt for the first time, which led to an extensive malware and virus scan, and multiple google searches, I determined that name.dll was ok. Now as far as functionality, I'm not sure what is lost by not installing it. You can always try it, and if you don't like it, remove the addons from your browser. Thanks. I'll probably say OK next time it's suggested.
