I have an inherited HP laptop with a legit windows XP key on the bottom of it, but the machine was formatted due to bloat, problems etc....and of course no one knows where the original XP disc is. :-)

So my question is this...is there a way to find out what install disc I need for this machine, based on the product key?

Thanks,
Chris

OK, nevermind, had a bit of a brain freeze. Based on the machine, there's a good chance that its XP Home...the reason I had problems was I was trying to install XP Pro on the machine. Will get a copy of Home. :-)

The OEM sticker with the key on it should say Pro on Home on it.
