Moving XP from one computer to another

Is there a reasonably easy way to move XP from one computer to another?

Both machines are licensed via OEM. The 'old' machine has a SATA hard drive with a dual boot to linux (that I don't really need on that machine). The new machine has an IDE drive with XP preloaded, as well as a SATA connection.

I tried just moving the SATA drive from the old machine to the new (swapping out the IDE hard drive on the new machine) but XP keeps rebooting without ever actually coming up.

I'm trying to get around reinstalling all the programs and data and maintaining bookmarks, email addresses and the like. Am I stuck doing that?

A repair install should fix it (assuming you have a CD). If not you might be able to fix it from safe mode by rescanning for hardware changes, but I have my doubts. (I've never tried it and I'm not sure you can even do it.)

Kaled.
