Outlook "Oddity" when using Dual-Monitors

I was called to a co-workers computer earlier today to help diagnose a problem that I had never heard of before, and couldn't find an answer to through researching either.

The problem is this:
The laptop is a Dell Latitude D620 with an XP pro setup, he just hooked up a Planar PL1700 Monitor to the laptop. I had (five minutes prior) shown him how to enable the multi-monitor support. He opens a message in outlook (Outlook 2003 SP2), and hits "Reply". The new message window opens, but then immediately begins to zoom in, and the magnification combo box number climbs (by 1%) until it reaches 500%. I checked for a stuck key on his laptop (thinking that maybe the hotkey for zoom was stuck), among a few other attempts, but nothing worked until I disabled the additional monitor.

As I stated earlier, I couldn't find anything online about a multi-monitor problem with outlooks magnification, so if anyone has any insights, PLEASE HELP. Thanks.
