Vista SP1 Confusion Down to a Typo: No Date Announced

 3:50 pm on Jul 23, 2007 (gmt 0)

Microsoft claims an error in an e-mail led to reports that it has released a trial version of Vista Service Pack 1 when, in fact, no date has officially been confirmed for its launch.

"Apologies all. We made a typo in the last notification that referenced the wrong OS," said the second e-mail from the WDK team. "We didn't mean to imply or cause any confusion on the availability of the service pack for Vista. The WDK build available now on Connect is the latest for Windows Server 2008."

We carried the news here, too.

SP1 has been an on-again off-again affair for MS. It's not easy to keep up. I've read everything from detailed release schedules to the outright denial that SP1 is even being developed by MS. It would be nice to know their plans as it affects purchasing planning. Advance notice of things like this can be key for their corporate markets.

What I have heard from Microsoft is that they are aiming for the end of 2007 with the trial/beta release and some time next year for the full one. Anyone else who can confirm this?

That's the general schedule Microsoft seems to be informing us of now.
