Sigh, spoke too soon I did. shut er down[1:30 A M] and checked from the T V room for an hour before I retired and it stayed off, and in fact was still off when I got up for water at 6:30 A M but when I got up at 10:00 A M it was sittin there humming contentedly to itself. Any idea how to figure this out?

They may not be related to the other issue. Does this [microsoft.com] give you any pointers?

Thanks man, gives me more to check out. It mentions Roxio/CD Creator problems but I only have the Power2Go software that came with this Gateway e machine. This is a replacment for my old w2k internet box that finally died so I imported it's tiny 10 G drives to this machine as folders. Adaptec folders exist in those Directories tho so could that maybe be causing a problem. They show up in a registry scan but don't reside in C:\Program Files so I guess they're safe to delete from the list. I'll post after I try the first and/or second but I don't mess with no BIOS stuff...if it comes to that I'll call a knowedgeable friend to help.. ...

Thanx for the welcome engine....got tied up in the real world[I'm really a musician]and as such didn't even notice this nice welcome...LOL...such is life. Well I haven't solved the problem with advices given so far and my techie friend is horridly tied up in a "corperate" problem but says he'll stop by as soon as he can so will in fact let you know wassup with this problem soon as I know.
