I have a laptop that i want to network with an XP desktop at my house.

The XP desktop has a direct CAT5 connection to the DSL router. The wireless XP is in the other room.

I just want to do basic file and printer sharing?

Can these communicate and if so, does anyone have directions or a link to resources?

I havent spent much time with Vista, so the tools are a bit different....

thanks all

That shouldn't be a problem at all. Just try it out first without the Windows firewall in place because I've found that can often be the problem.

Microsoft provides a ton of resource articles here:

  • Windows Vista Networking [technet.microsoft.com]
  • Windows Help and How-to: Networking [windowshelp.microsoft.com]
