Despite words of caution from some in the tech industry that it's too early to make the switch to Microsoft's Windows Vista, many PC shoppers have no choice.

The PC industry has moved almost everything they sell to consumers--and some businesses--over to Vista, both in stores and online.

There are more and more places where you can get a machine with no OS preinstalled. If you're determined to use an older or different OS than the retailers prescribe then fortunately it's getting easier to do so. The lack of OS alternatives probably won't ruffle the feathers of most customers out there. The tech-savvy among us will surely be able to find ways to get the system we want regardless of the mainstream retailers...although their prices are tempting. ;)
