With Vista set to deploy next month, Microsoft has pushed back the release date for the next Windows XP update.

Originally estimated to be released in the second half of 2007, Windows XP Service Pack 3 is now scheduled to be available some time in the first half of 2008.

Microsoft edited its "Service Pack Road Map" page earlier this week with the new estimated release date.

It's odd that they're announcing this SP this far out. Often these packages are just a roll-up of previously released security patches. This may indicate that MS will be adding some additional functionality to XP with SP3.
