Rumor: NYT to partner with Apple's tablet
Buy an Apple tablet, get your NYT news for free?

The New York Times is going to try a paywall again, as I posted on WW here:

But, this item in the New York Magazine article was interesting:

One personal friend of Sulzberger said a final decision could come within days, and a senior newsroom source agreed, adding that the plan could be announced in a matter of weeks. (Apple's tablet computer is rumored to launch on January 27, and sources speculate that Sulzberger will strike a content partnership for the new device, which could dovetail with the paid strategy.)

That could be pretty big! I cant quite figure out how it will work though. Part of the Me.com account or exclusive to the device?

Nah, just a coupon probably for two years, or something like that. It would be a win-win. The NYT has the advertisers who would like to reach folks who shelled out $1,000 for a reader. And, they could target the ads to those folks.

Sweet. Like the magazine biz in days past.

Great scott....
Google has one of those rolling update windows when I search on "Apple tablet."

Says one poster:
Apple tablet-fest and State of the Union both scheduled for next Wednesday. Who gets more coverage, Steve or Barack?
