IŽll reply my own post, to add some detail. I did put a mobile phone in my listing the same I used to receive the pin. Is that a problem? Should I remove it or edit it and start over or will that just make things worst? I don't see any activity on that listing seems like nothing is happening.

I can't recall the delay but it was not instant, despite entering the PIN. I also used a mobile number. I suggest waiting.

Thank you. I'll have to. But did you noticed any effect after entering the pin and submitting? I see the browser send the data, but I expected something like a "ok your data was submitted, cheers" or something. Instead I see that "awaiting verification" legend what creeps me out.

My recent experience is that it can take anywhere between 1-24 hours after entering the PIN. That's in Japan though...

There are a variety of issues that could be at play. For one, I don't think you are supposed to use a mobile phone, but the actual business phone. Does it say anything after awaiting verification? Does it say anything about waiting for a content check? Some types of listings and some keywords in listings set off a flag that causes your listing to be held for a content check. Additionally there are lots of glitches and sometimes it just takes awhile for a listing to be approved or to go live. ALSO important - if you keep tweaking and re-verifying to try to get it to go live - that can cause your listing to be flagged, usually does in fact. Each case above could be slightly different. You can search the 'old' maps support forum that has all the archived support problems, to see all the people that had similar headaches and find out what support told them to do. That's what I've been doing when potential clients contact me that are stuck in the system, since there is really not much support from Google and getting answers is tough. The key is to know how to do it right so your listing doesn't get flagged to begin with, which is tough for small businesses because they don't have time to learn all the ins and outs and Google doesn't really tell you much about what NOT to do. Just realize there is lots of abuse with Google local (now Google Places) so while part of the issue is lack of support, part of it is innocent business people getting flagged because they innocently do something a scammer may do - for instance adding their location or a location keyword in as a custom category. So anyway, hope this helps a little! Linda

Are you sure that it is showing "Awaiting Verification" and NOT "Awaiting Next Update" after entering the verification pin? If latter is the case, then just click on edit listing button and submit it without making any changes. It should work as have had this problem a couple of times.
