I am using the Local Search Control (which is a search box embedded within a Google map - link to Google Map API example below) and need advice as to how to customize it so that an overwritable text of my choosing (e.g., "pizza") could be coded in, in place of where the example says "search the map".
This is quite a specific question, I hope someone can answer it for you (as you've found a great place to engage in Local Search discussion), but I get the feeling that asking the same question at the specific Google Maps API Discussion Group will improve your chances of finding an answer. A link to the Google Group can be found at the homepage of the documentation for the Google Maps API.
Reminder on links in posts:
We try to keep links to an absolute minimum on WebmasterWorld and try to discuss topics in a way that others can look at the thread later without finding a vital part of the discussion missing. (strong moderation of links also helps keep the boards free of self promotion so everyone can discuss things with less noise). In this instance I'm happy to let this link stay in the hope it will help with answering your query.
