Searching for "South Africa" vs "SA"
South Africa, sa

Hi guys,

I'm South African with a few Google specific "local search" questions. Although it's "local search", most people here will search by default using the "international" form first, then if they don't find what they are looking for, they might restrict the search to "South African websites only" in Google. Which is GeoIP targeted!

IOW, they will use Google.com to search for "Asus SA"

I have a few high ranking listings for a few keywords eg. "gigabyte sa" (1st), "asus sa" (2nd)

"sa" is the common short form for South Africa. In these listing, Google will highlight the words "South Africa".

However, I'm not even on the map for "gigabyte south africa" or "asus south africa".

So, the question is, why/how does Google treat these searches differently when in (my) theory they should return the same results?

Thanks in advance!
