How to Resync FTP passwords in Linux?

Hi,

I'm having trouble when i ftp into my server and it goes to a different directory that i want it to.

I edited the passwd and passwd,v file to have the user to go to the directory i want it to, but its not working for some reason. Is there a way to resync the ftp users with the passwword file?
