Recommendations appreciated: I am looking for a Linux host that supports .asp in their basic package. I also need them to assign an IP address if a VPS.

Apologies if this this topic should be in 'webhosting' forum - i was unable to get into that forum.

Thanks,
Greg

Greg,

Are you looking for someone that supports Apache:ASP or Chilisoft? Or are you using something different for your .asp in the Linux environment?

Please be sure to read the FAQ for Sun's Active Server Pages aka Chilisoft. There are a number of significant differences between the MSFT and Sun versions. Namely Chilisoft is based on ASP 3.0, a rather old version of MSFT's ASP. There are no plans to upgrade Sun ASP.

Likewise, Apache:ASP lacks support for VBScript and JScript which are an essential part of ASP.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that Sun ASP is only supported on a few platforms:

# Solaris 10, 9, 8 Operating System (SPARC)
# Solaris 10, 9 Operating System (x86)
# Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1, 3
Note: Support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1 will be removed from future releases
# Hewlett-Packard HP-UX 11i
# IBM AIX 5.1 and 5.2
