Redirected links

Hi, i had 4 websites and wanted to maintain just one. So i redirected 3 of them to the main one.

I was wondering if the (juice)backlinks from the other sites are transfering completely to the one transfered to.

Should i contact the sites owners where the links to the 3 sites are and ask them to change the link destination to the main site?

I have an impression that it does not transfer as it would be directly linking to it.

My understanding is that it's a partial transfer. You're probably better served if you can have site owners change their links to the new site. BUT, I'm a bit careful, probably overly careful, in that I believe those links are going to be seen as new and treated as new, and possibly not trusted as much. It just seems that new links can take months before rankings are stable. So not sure if that's a link thing or not, but I think of it that way. But in the long run I think you're better served with direct links over redirected links. Hope that's not too much information for ya'. ;)

Thanks, when you redirect a site on the webmaster tool. Google tells you to contact the site's webmaster and ask to change the link to the destination site.

That's what I will do.

So i redirected 3 of them to the main one.

Did you redirect all the URLs of the old site to the root homepage URL of the main site?
