Ok, ground rules. The article must have something substantive to say and although a blog post from an authoritative site associated with searchengineland or even independent bloggers like Wiep [wiep.net] are encouraged. If it's a no-name blog but has high quality content then fine.

Please refrain from discussing your own blog or pretending it's not your own blog. It would be nice if we can have this discussion without someone trying to take advantage of it and use it to advance or promote their blog.

Be forewarned, the content may be scrutinized and if someone thinks it is crap then it might be labled as such.

If the site is in the word filter then it can't be discussed.

i read this a couple of months ago and bookmarked it.
it's a good study of link analysis tools and methods.

Google vs. Bing Part II: Link Analysis:
http://www.huomah.com/Search-Engines/Search-Engine-Optimization/Google-vs.-Bing-Part-II-Link-Analysis.html [huomah.com]

ex-moderator sugarrae tapped her considerable network of expert friends a couple of years ago, including our martinibuster and a few other WebmasterWorld ex-mods for linkdev ideas here.

11 Experts on Link Development Speak Out:
http://www.sugarrae.com/11-experts-on-link-development-speak/ [sugarrae.com]

she must have dropped that the day before she resigned.
3 months ago she published a follow-up.

Link Building with the Experts Interview:
http://outspokenmedia.com/seo/link-building-interview/ [outspokenmedia.com]

and you could spend a week or three here.

Top 100+ Link Building Resources | Vertical Measures:
http://www.verticalmeasures.com/link-building/top-100-link-building-resources/ [verticalmeasures.com]

i would add Majestic SEO to that tools list.

I read this article recently, by Eric Ward in Search Engine Land, and I was really struck by the idea. Haven't yet had a chance to try it....

How To Use Google Instant As A Powerful Link Building X-Ray
Sep 29, 2010
http://searchengineland.com/how-to-use-google-instant-as-a-powerful-link-building-x-ray-51729 [searchengineland.com]

And here's another searchengineland article from earlier this year, interviewing a spectrum of link builders (also with our martinibuster), discussing backlink analysis, not often-enough mentioned....

30 Link Builders Discuss Backlink Analysis For Campaign Design Part 1
Feb 9, 2010
http://searchengineland.com/30-link-builders-discuss-backlink-analysis-for-campaign-design-part-1-35275 [searchengineland.com]

I would add some library threads from this WebmasterWorld Link Development forum as well.

Here's another article I just saw posted... similar to the idea of Using Google Instant as a research tool, but slightly different... more about doing phrase targeting research. I'm taking the liberty of squeezing it in here, where it only semi-belongs....

Using YouTube as a Keyword Research Tool for SEO

In general, I should mention, search engines themselves provide extremely good clues to how search engines work and what people search for.

What a great thread!.. I wish I could suggest all of the blogs I have written over the years which are based on hard facts and not FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt).
