Hi, I think I have a solution to my problem with some or these pages.
On the bottom of the page, let's say to go to the home page
the coder wrote go back to index.html
yet the name of site is www.widgetswidgets.html WITHOUT the /index.html
would a search engine consider those two different urls?

Yes, they are two different URLs.
Link to the one without index.html in.
Set up a redirect to strip the index.html part if that is included in the request.

Duplication problem arises under SE for these 2 urls
