I plan on submitting about 20 articles or so to ezinearticles on a specific subject and my anchor text in the resource box will have different versions of letís say ďnavy blue widgets.Ē
There are 1,600,000 results in Google for this term that Iím going after. So far we rank at # 20 because of reciprocal links with related websites and other forms of SEO.
I will obviously also rewrite those articles and post them on our site. Will ezinearticles have any impact whatsoever? Will we move up at all or am I just wasting time with ezinearticles or any other article directories?

I would personally not submit to an article directory but it seems to be part of the formula many people use and some swear by it.
I would look for guest blogging opportunities if the sector has many blogs. The rest could be used for the article directory. I think this has a greater chance of shifting you than one article directory.

If ezinearticles rank page one in Google, and you have an optimized link from a ranking article to your website from the content area of the article, there is no reason to believe that it will not impact your rankings.
Building 10-20 good links to that specific article, so long as it is well written, is in fact a solid strategy in terms of securing 'anchor post' pages in various positions which create stability in rankings and help move rankings forward.
