Anonymous blogs
Are they helpful or harmful?

Have anyone done a backlink check on a competitor ranking higher than you and find that they have a handful of blogs, usually with unique domains and not some free wordpress blog, where they have a link on either a post or a sitewide on the sidebar. These blogs are seemingly niche specific so they're blogs about [green widgets] only or [blue widgets] only. However, when I search all over the blogs, they have no contact page nor a single contact e-mail, which means I can't contact them for a link. I'm not sure I'd even want to considering they reek of paid links, or perhaps they're blogs from a blogging service that will post your articles and links to however many are in their network.

Fact of the matter is, they're ranking top 3 with a bunch of directory links, links to sites that says they require reciprocal linking yet these competitor sites don't even have a links page to reciprocate, and these anonymous blog links. Well, that's the kind of things my competitor sites are getting away with while I'm stuck hovering between pages one and two.

I was wondering whether these anonymous blogs were harmful? And does one find their contact information?

If there's no contact info then it means they don't want to be contacted. Move on. It's a waste of time to ponder why, what, or who.
