best search engine / syntax for link checking? born2drv msg:3762282 5:46 pm on Oct 9, 2008 (gmt 0) I haven't checked link popularity on other sites but Google in a while. Can someone tell me whats the best way they check their link popularity? I remeber Live was once a good way of checking several years back, I forget the exact syntax however. Are there any others?

I tend to use Yahoo to check backlinks. Some of the more modern folks I think use their Google webmaster tools accounts for this information. I don't because I'm paranoid, I mean I'm 'careful with my data'. martinibuster msg:3762680 6:31 am on Oct 10, 2008 (gmt 0)
I do it this way on Yahoo:
I haven't used Google for backlink checks in ages.

Yahoo definitely the best way to check as mentioned in last reply.
But don't forget to filter out all the site-wides which make it a pain to read through all the IBLs.
Just add another filter for each sitewide IBL domain, like this:
linkdomain:yoursite.com -site:yoursite.com -site:yoursitewidelinkpartner.com
That's the best way of getting a nice list of unique IBLs.

Other handy searches:
linkdomain:example.com -site:example.com site:.edu Finds links from .edus only.
linkdomain:example.com -site:example.com site:.org Finds links from .orgs only.
linkdomain:example.com -site:example.com intitle:keyword Finds links from pages that have keyword in the title
linkdomain:example.com -site:example.com inurl:keyword Finds links from pages that have keyword in the url
