I have been using Altavista to check inbound links to my site, and a few competitors' sites. As I type link:www.my_site.com, I get "AltaVista found 578 results" on page 1. However, as I keep looking at deeper results, that mention changes into "AltaVista found 2,100 results" (ca from page 25 onwards).
As I type link:www.my_competitors_site.com, I get "AltaVista found 1,200 results" on page 1. As I keep looking at deeper results, that mention changes first into a slightly lower figure and then into "AltaVista found 1,600 results".
Would the second, higher results count indicate newer links? Does that have any significance at all?
