1885: new post   Microsoft Files Complaint With EU Commission Over Google's Dominance
As troubling as the situation is in United States, it is worse in Europe. That is why our filing today focuses on a pattern of actions that Google has taken to entrench its dominance in the markets for online search and search advertising to the detriment of European consumers.[br][br]How does it do this? Google has built its business on indexing and displaying snippets of other organizations' Web content. It understands as well as anyone that search engines depend upon the openness of the Web in order to function properly, and it's quick to complain when others undermine this. Unfortunately, Google has engaged in a broadening pattern of walling off access to content and data that competitors need to provide search results to consumers and to attract advertisers.

1893: new post   Improving Website Performance
I'm running a Joomla! website and I'm experiencing some performance issues.[br][br]I ran into this problem a while ago and after extensive testing the host figured out it was an issue with the hard-drive combined with a CPU that couldn't cope and to low memory. So they gave me a new server with a new hard-drive, twice the CPU power and twice the memory. It's a VDS in a cluster setup, so it should be able to "run" my website.[br][br]My website performed OK then, not great but it's a "big" site, sort off... 6 languages/different front-pages, around 3500 pages. So I figured it was as good as it was going to get back then.[br][br]Fast forward a year and my website is slow again. And by slow I mean, if I use host-tracker.com to check the average load times. I get an average load time of around 4 seconds....[br][br]What I did so far:

"Once you click the link to 'Block all example.com results' you'll get a confirmation message, as well as the option to undo your choice. You'll see the link whether or not you're signed in, but the domains you block are connected with your Google Account, so you'll need to sign in before you can confirm a block.[br][br]Now when you click a result and then return to Google, you'll find a new link next to 'Cached' that reads 'Block all example.com results.'[br][br]Once you've blocked a domain, you won't see it in your future search results. (Side note: Sometimes you may have to search on a new term, rather than simply refreshing your browser, before you'll notice the domain has been successfully removed.) The next time you're searching and a blocked page would have appeared, you'll see a message telling you results have been blocked, making it easy to manage your personal list of blocked sites. This message will appear at the top or bottom of the results page depending on the relevance of the blocked pages."
