Microsoft Corp. today announced record fourth-quarter revenue of $17.37 billion for the quarter ended June 30, 2011, an 8pct increase from the same period of the prior year.[br][br]For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011, Microsoft reported record revenue of $69.94 billion, a 12pct increase from the prior year. Operating income, net income, and diluted earnings per share for the year were $27.16 billion, $23.15 billion, and $2.69, which represented increases of 13pct, 23pct, and 28pct, respectively, when compared with the prior year.

Apple more than doubled its earnings in its fiscal third quarter on the strength of triple-digit sales of its iPhone and iPad product lines.[br][br]The company, which posted its numbers after the close of trading on Wall Street Tuesday afternoon, earned $7.31 billion, or $7.79 per diluted share, on revenues of $28.6 billion. In an August 2010 blog post, we said we would continue Site Explorer with a focus on new features for webmaster community, even after the transition to Microsoft platforms is complete. We listened to your feedback, and along with the team from Bing Webmaster Center looked jointly at the roadmap for the webmaster tools. Having two webmaster portals for a single source for organic results does not add enough value. Once organic results are transitioned to Bing in all the markets, we plan to shut down Yahoo! Site Explorer and Microsoft's Webmaster Tools will be the source for Bing and Yahoo! webmaster site and analytics data.

The US's Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) is targeting overseas websites it believes are breaking US copyrights whether or not their servers are based in America or there is another direct US link, said Erik Barnett, the agency's assistant deputy director.[br][br]As long as a website's address ends in .com or .net, if it is implicated in the spread of pirated US-made films, TV or other media it is a legitimate target to be closed down or targeted for prosecution, Barnett said. While these web addresses are traditionally seen as global, all their connections are routed through Verisign, an internet infrastructure company based in Virginia, which the agency believes is sufficient to seek a US prosecution.

Google Inc. must face a lawsuit claiming its data collection using Wi-Fi networks for its Street View program, which allows users see photographs of roadsides, violates wiretapping laws, a judge said.[br][br]U.S. District Judge James Ware in San Francisco denied Google's bid to dismiss claims that the data collection, which included e-mails, user names, passwords and other private data, violated federal wiretap laws. Ware granted Google's request to dismiss claims based on state statutes.
