Home page title tag

How many keywords should there be in the home page title tag?

I assume that the less there are the more focused the title will be. My title tag has 4 keywords right now, with 79 characters in total. I'm thinking that's too long.

Any thoughts on this?

Our best titles slightly wash out keywords on homepages. An example of this from a EMD is something like this: lefthandedmetalwidgets dot com would have a title "Left Handed Metal Widgets and Comparison Guide" - and is probably ignored and we got the 4 word keyphrase in with another function of the site (Comparison Guide) included.

Assuming you have competitors trying to get around with the same keywords and phrases, a title of this length may stick out visually to users while looking at SERPs. The title can help get you into the top 10 but as some members here mentioned to you, the title should be written for human eyes and believe Google can recognize normal, conversational writing.
