I am new to this SEO. I have been doing my homework religiously for the past couple of weeks but there is this just one minor question i just cant seem to find an answer. I hope you guys can help.

I know that for SEO, links and keywords are on the top of the priority list. My question is what are keywords actually? I mean, how does it come to be that a webpage can be ranked for a particular word? Where can I set my keywords? is it the one you can find on your source code?

i sound absurd, i know. i understand the SEO techniques but i failed to fully comprehend the basics... please help me.

The Keywords help your customers find you online on different search engine. I think you should read several SEO articles in this board and also few other forums such as seomoz.org/beginners.php
