I am trying to create a simple website for somebody. They will need to edit text in some of the web pages without going into the HTML coding to do so. Thank you for your help.

You might look into Aloha Editor - you'll have to work out the user authentication aspect, but you can create regions that you can edit directly.

Would you not be better off using some sort of hosted service (eg weebly or squarespace), otherwise you're effectively going to making your own CMS (content management system) which will probably be overkill for a small website.
