No javascript, straight HTML link. I have to go into the files section and manually put those larger images on the server.

Are you talking about linking the actual image or uploading the large version of the image to the web server?

Uploading the larger version to the server, it just won't do it, and it's a pain in the neck if there a multiple images linked in this manner.

What are you using to upload the site?
Have you tried an independant FTP software like FileZilla instead of using DW itself to upload?
