I use Dreamweaver CS5 but it looks like it's pretty similar on CS4. In the files panel (where all your site files are listed) there is a synchronize button.. When you click that it will ask you if you want to sync selected files only or the entire site and you also need to choose if you're syncing to the server or from the server. When you hit preview you can choose to de-select what you don't want to be uploaded.

@Emmett: I noticed that Dreamweaver considers the local file dates to be the date Dreamweaver was first used, not the last modified date. Therefore, it thinks I need to send thousands of files to the server. And there are a few local files that I have worked but, but are not yet ready to be loaded to the server. I guess I'll just have to try to remember which ones shouldn't be sent. I wish DW had used the "last modified" date instead of assuming all files were brand new, and needed to be sent to the remote server. I usually upload new files in batches, so I hope there's a more efficient way of doing that once everything is synched. Thanks for your response, DW is similar to what I was using, but that's just enough to get me into trouble.

Try Site Publisher - it caches what it thinks is on the server and matches to your computer and just uploads the changes. $25 single user. Note - if you make changes directly on the server you need to download the site to Site Publisher again.

@ ColinG: Thanks for the suggestion, but after having just spent money on DW 4, I'd like to at least get my money out of it.

You will waste more time waiting for DW to upload than the $25 is worth. I upload 10-15 times a day and have 3000 files to check. Just my thoughts.
