Is "e" text editor worth buying?

 1:51 pm on Jan 5, 2010 (gmt 0)

I've been using Notepad++ and sometimes TextPad (which is quite powerful), but a colleague suggested I try "e".

My first impression is that it's very useful. One can add syntax shortcuts and personalise it nicely, which is something I haven't really experimented with before.

It has crashed a few times on my Windows 7 box, but it is still in Beta. Does anyone here know the product and would you recommend it?

Also, I've heard an opinion that this is the Windows version of TextMate (Mac) which I haven't used before. Is TextMate good and the best Mac text editor or would you recommend another?

I can't say i know Notepad++. Primarily i use DW with notepad, though i use and like Ultra Edit. Unfortunately crashing applications can cause a lot of headaches at all the wrong times.

Thanks caine. I've used Ultra Edit in the past and also found it good.

I mainly want to find out about "e" and was hoping someone could endorse it. It's true what you saw about a crashing application. I'll investigate the cause.
