Dreamweaver Templates or Find and Replace
Is it me or are templates annoying?

 2:48 pm on Aug 8, 2008 (gmt 0)

I've used Dreamweaver on various different sites and I've always used templates as a way of updating pages in bulk. I find templates very frustrating and something always seems to go wrong, for no obvious reason.

I'm about to start work on a new site and have been thinking of whether to just create normal pages and abandon templates for find and replace. So when it comes to changing a graphic or text in the navigation, I can just go to edit > find & replace and choose 'sitewide'.

Does anyone else do this or is this really wrong?

I would use search and replace for emergencies only. Far can go wrong than with templates. You may want to try looking at server side includes though. That may help achieve some of your objectives.
