I am looking for a search-replace software (something like ReplaceEm), but for linux/unix. I have tons of html files in many directories on linux server and cannot make changes locally and upload every now and then.

Is there a software available which would let me do a multi line search replace over html files recursively over many sub directories.

One I found is RPL which is excellent, but I don't know if it can handle multiline text.

The kind of replacement I am looking for is like:

Search for:

------------------
Do you want an email <br>
notification of new replies?
------------------

And replace to:

------------------
Do you want an email notification of new replies?
------------------

I would appreciate some positive responses.

try : "multiple file search and replace" - not linux, but may run under an emulator. Its pretty good with HTML, php, etc on multiple files - i think the 2nd version has just come out.
