DW issues in taking over existing site.

New to the forum and new to Dreamweaver. I am in the process of doing damage control for an extremely outdated and poorly designed website for a non-profit. We are hoping to get approval for a total redesign soon, but in the meantime...

The company I am working for uses DW MX 2004. I am having sooo many issues in attempting to update the Library files that are connected to sidebar navigation on various pages.

When I update a library item, it asks me if I want it updated on all pages that use the item. I say yes and save it to the remote server. However, it only updates the library item if the corresponding page is also saved to the remote server.

Is this correct? Do I have to upload not only the library file but all corresponding files that use the library item? This seems awfully cumbersome. (Then again, I am working with a horrid, archaic, bohemoth of a website, so it may just seem cumbersome because of the work that such an effort would involve for me.)

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

Hello Vega,

Yes that is correct, updating a library item (or also a .dwt template) and applying that change "site wide" will only change that piece of code in the local files.. you would need to upload those (now changed,.. updated to reflect the changes in the library item) files.. library items do not work the same way as a SSI (server side include)..
