I have a piece of code that I've been working on for a sidebar navigation panel for a Blogger hosted blogger.

It is one image cut into cubes that, when hovered over state what they are (ie. twitter, facebook, whatever) and obviously link to those sites. Thing is, it's not working. I will cover 'coffee' (ie paypal you $5, that's decent for a cup of coffee, yes?) for anyone who can fix it. Hell, I'll even throw in a month of free advertising on my site (www.iknowallthewords.com)

Note: there is currently no link for 'shop' I'll add it later. okay, here it is:

"not working" is the most useless description of a problem that can ever be stated.

What was it supposed to do? What does it actually do? How does that differ from what you expected? Have you run the code through the W3C HTML validator? What browser and version are you testing on?

With just a visual look it is clear that you have problems with quotes. Some are different types and there are diffrerent amounts around some items.

Okay, first thanks for replying, but you don't have to be rude.

As I said, it is supposed to be a for navigation for a blog. Two columns consisting of four images (eight total). Each image is to change when hovered over and link to various sites/pages. I used part of code I already had and part from an online how to thing. I'm thinking something was wrong with the how to, as when I try just their code all I get is a broken image.

If you can fix it to do what I want, I will gladly pay you.Again, thanks for replying.

What does it actually do? Is it the images don't appear at all? Are the images in the wrong order? Are they not appearing as a cube, but in a line across or down the screen? Is it that some images appear and some don't? Is it that all of the images don't change on mouseover? Is it that some of the images don't change on mouseover? Is it that one of the images doesn't change? Is it that one or more of the links doesn't work when clicked? As I said, "not working" is a description that offers no clues as to what the problem is.

How does what happens differ from what you expected? Have you run the code through the W3C HTML validator? What browser and version are you testing on?

I'm clearly not an expert at this. I know the basics, and usually enough to get what I want done.

When I test the code I (I just use notepad to test) I get one long section of cubes, all straight down instead of two columns of four, some have the little broken image symbol, some show the link and work when clicked. No image appears for anything. There are no images for anything to mouseover.

It differs from what I wanted completely, there are no images. I haven't used the W3C HTML validator, I don't even know what it is. I'm running whatever the most current Firefox is.

Now, how many people have already spent $5 worth of time just reading the first post and trying to make sense of it?

Why does it say the same thing three times? Is this php-generated code that pops in the same variable wherever it's needed, regardless of how verbose it gets?

Hell, I'll even throw in a month of free advertising on my site (www.myscreenname.com)

Oh, gosh, is this just another form of forum spamming?

With just a visual look it is clear that you have problems with quotes. Some are different types and there are different amounts around some items.

I smell cut-and-paste routed via something that's set for Smart Quotes. Unfortunately, html does not "do" Smart Quotes. They're simply characters, without syntactic meaning.

It is one image cut into cubes that, when hovered over state what they are

Double gosh. It's MMN, putting us into "Look, just show him how to aim the ### gun" territory.

:: idly wondering how a two-dimensional browser image can be divided into three-dimensional segments, and wishing I could do the same with my Inuktitut verb tables which require four dimensions to display properly ::

the three images are not all the same. The first is the main image, the second is the hover image, and the third is the original again as I thought needed.

I'm not trying to spam anything, it seems useless to offer ad space if I don't have proof of anywhere to host it. I don't have a traffic issue.

I'm sorry. I just figured if anyone could help me figure this out it would be someone here. I don't expect anything 'for free' that was why I offered the $5. Obviously this was entirely a waste of time. For people who are acting like they know everything, I'm not getting many useable answers.

@all the words:
- stop trying to pay, help out here is for free. Surely there are some -al lot I guess- out here that do this kind of stuff as a job/business, but $5 or free advertising means nothing to them at all.
- stop pointing to URLs, in this community every established member all has a ton of URLs they promote, if we can't talk without mentioning URLs, we can't talk at all as we'll get instantly swamped with spammers. If you need a URL in your code: use www.example.com it's the only accepted one.

As for posting code: there are guidelines for that, read them, you obviously have not turned it into the minimum that exhibits the problem.

Obviously this was entirely a waste of time

Maybe there is wasted time indeed, but I'd venture you caused it ... you enter a community and try to set their ways to your needs. It'll never work, no community accepts that of any newcomer. The right way to enter it -and be welcomed- is to check out the ways of the community and try to adhere to those (sometimes unwritten - but out here they're spelled out-) rules as best as you can. Sure it'll take a bit more of your time, but for the community as a whole it saves time.

Now a hover effect: I'd never try to do that with javascript. I'd always use CSS for that, much easier.

If you get broken images: looks like either the image is not there, or the site serving it is not letting you have it in the context that you're trying to retrieve it.

Validators can be found online: e.g. at: [validator.w3.org...]
[and before you ask: that's an established site, not a promotion at all - at first it might be confusing but stick around and you'll quickly learn the difference.
