IE7 and very long <select> elements
cannot alter height

I cannot find away to alter the height of the list of options displayed when using very long lists of in a <select> in IE7 - does any one have a solution?

I'm pretty sure the option tag is unable to be styled at all in IE so the only way around it would be to make the select the width of the widest bit of content.

It's a real pain... :(

I'm pretty sure the height of the dropdown (I assume you mean dropdown (size="1"), as opposed to a standard list) is very much dependant on the browser and should hopefully shrink depending on the height of the viewport. Is the dropdown extending beyond the visible area in IE7?
