Yahoo releasing IE 7 before MSN?

 9:53 am on Oct 6, 2006 (gmt 0)

Maybe I missed something but I was not aware that IE was officially released. I had just completed adding Yahoo messenger on my newly reformatted computer then I opened up an IE 6 browser when this message showed up (with the Yahoo Toolbar automatically added from the messenger install) asking me if I wanted to download IE 7 Optimized for Yahoo.

Yahoo! introduces the hot new look for Fall '06.
Update your web browser to the new Internet Explorer 7 (BETA) optimized for Yahoo!

You see little Y!'s running around everyone in the example. This is a smart marketing move to get Yahoo ahead of the search game when IE is released.

Only thing worse than IE7 as your browser?

IE7 with YAHOO! BRANDING plastered all over it.

It looks awkward! Is there any tie-up?

I've often thought that MSFT and YAHOO come from the same ideals while GOOG and Apple come from simular ideals. It would be interesting to see if Yahoo does to Google what Microsoft did to Apple.

I would love to see a tie-up between Microsoft and Yahoo. Even further, I'd love to see a Yahoo Games integration on my XBox360.

Internet Explorer 7 (BETA) optimized for Yahoo

It is a custom version of the beta beta version of IE7, built with the MS IEAK. Most likely it is out of date compared to the current IE7 available from Microsoft.

People should stay away from Yahoo browsers. I don't know what they do with it but there are a lot of browser plug ins that will not work with Yahoo styled browsers. I know because our company has a plug in needed to use our print service and Yahoo's browser is the only one that doesn't work at all with it and we don't know why. So we have to tell out customers to use regular IE or FireFox
