Hello there! Any idea how long does it take to design your OWN website? I mean, doing it personally and from scratch? How about when using a pre-designed template? We are conducting a research and I believe this is the right place to ask these questions. Your replies are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ness.

Same as any computer-oriented time estimate: Make up a number and multiply by ten.

there are far too many unknowns for you to get a realistic answer - you need to provide much more information...to scrape the surface:
What is the purpose of the website?
What is the skill level of the designer/builder - e.g. experience in graphic design, typography, marketing, copy writing, HTML, CSS, JS ... the list goes on
Who will be maintaining the site and how?
Answer these and you'll get a load more questions, but it will be one step closer to the answer.

There are really 2 issues; design and content.
I have always found content to take the most time and maintenance. Someone has to write content, take or find images, and put it all together.
Templates are a starting point and can jumpstart the design process. But, unless you want your site to scream AMATEUR and look like every other site that uses the template, you will still need to modify the look (design) of the template pages. In some cases, that can take more skill and time than starting from scratch. It all depends upon the skill set that a person comes to the project with.
But, it really depends upon the goal of the site. Simple business card - hours, address, phone, map(?), product showcase, ecommerce, blog, etc..
These are just a few additional questions that you need to think about and answer.
