Alternatives to Flash 9
if you need AS3

I currently work developing Flash in Flash 8 Professional. Now I need to learn AS3 but don't want necessarily upgrade to Flash 9 AS3.

What are my alternatives?

Not sure there are any - you need CS3 to write AS3 :(

you could use Adobe Flex, but that is probably not the simplest way to get started. with CS3 you'll have built-in help, etc.

You can also use flashdevelop which is an open source as2/3 editor.
