The new alert() box with Chrome 29
Does anyone think this is an improvement?!

The JavaScript alert() box in Chrome used to be like every other browser... an obvious popup dialog in the centre of the screen, grabbing the users attention.

However, in Chrome 29 the JavaScript alert() box is now a subtle grey square/dialog at the very top of the window. Why?!

I was actually testing one of my own scripts, expecting an alert() dialog to appear and for a few moments I didn't think it had worked, in fact I thought it had wholly broken since I couldn't click on anything - it was frozen. Then I noticed this subtle box at the top of the window - I had to double take!

I am perplexed as to why Google have made this change? Do they honestly think it is an improvement?

I agree with you. Seems like poor UX to me.

Agreed. It blends into the background and is easily missed.

Wehey! A far more decent and in-yer-face alert box is back! Hurrah! :) And I hadn't even noticed that Chrome had updated!? Now on version 29.0.1547.76

Hmmm... I'm not seeing it. I've got version 29.0.1547.76 m, and still have the alert at the top of the window. :(

Hhmmm... Chrome didn't update afterall it seems... I happened to be using a Windows Vista laptop and noticed the thick, colourful border around the alert box (still at the top of the window) - and this remains (just checked). However, my XP machine is still the same subtle/grey alert box. Both versions of Chrome report the same. Weird.

What OS are you on?

Windows 7. The alert box looks like a plain grey box with a thin darker grey border and small drop shadow on the bottom.
