Is Google Adwords Conversion Giving You Trouble?
Problems with Google Adwords Conversion and Wordpress

Wow, gone are the days of yesteryear when you used to be able to track conversions easily in Google Adwords.

Or are they?

All I know is I want conversion tracking for the past year on my site, I just opened up my 6th support ticket because I keep getting incomplete answers about how to get it working. I've been going through this for a year. It seems like it would be easy:

a) I have standard Wordpress, no customization
b) Wordpress is probably the most common installation in the world
c) I have Bluehost, one of the largest most common hosts
d) I am a former GAP and web programmer

I just get stories like "I have to have a meeting with my technical team" or "can you give us all the website URLS again (after you reference all previous tickets)."

I get that Wordpress is somehow changing the code, but isn't this a known issue somehow? Or isn't there some kind of easy plugin or something.

The last answer I got was "check with your host." There is nothing to check, it's just Wordpress.

They don't even mention Wordpress on their FAQ. Sometimes it seems like they don't want you to know the conversion data.

Anyone else having trouble?

I'd really like to get this resolved.

What my inbox looks like...this doesn't count all the time on the phone, could be just one phone call?

It is simple, but you've confused me already. :-)

"All I know is I want conversion tracking for the past year on my site"
If you don't have conversion tracking in place already, when you do install it, it can't look back in time.

Wordpress, I hear ya. Do you sell products and have the AdWords Conversion Tracking script installed on your receipt page?

Thanks for your answer.

Exactly. I need the conversion tracking code to work on a wordpress page. (self hosted).

I would think this situation is not unique (!) :)

Also, I'm not a beginner. I was probably the first person Adwords Certified back in December 2004.

So, we no beginner, but wordpress can interpret code that you paste, so it will change a ">" to a &gt or whatever...

I did just get Google writing me with this article about custom page tempates working for one wordpress user: [codex.wordpress.org...]

I'll let you know if it works for me. Wow, seems like quite a tweak but at least there is one, if this works.

Thanks.

What you are going to need is someone familiar with WordPress and PHP to set it up for you. You need to do two things here, and they require editing your WordPress functions files:

1) inject the conversion code into the footer of the page you designate as your conversion

2) Write a conditional so that it only does so on your conversion page.

This is not something Google is ever going to help you with, because they have nothing to do with WordPress.

Are you using a premium theme platform, such as Thesis or Genesis?
