Search trend?

Out of the 10 categories that my site sells, I'm looking to know a few things with regards to search trends and volume -

1. Most popular (as per current trend) brand in a particular category
2. Most popular model for that brand (in terms of current searches)

For instance - I would like to know the most searched for brand of digital cameras and then trends for each models in that brand.

I know 'Google insights' is used to provide such data - the 'rising searches' that it suggests along with the search terms you enter. But, I'm really getting no help from this if I choose the date range as 'last 30 days' which is what I'd ideally need. Moreover, if I change the location setting from 'Worldwide' to one particular country, the data becomes even scarce and vague.

I could put in all brands and models in the keyword tool and then compare search volumes but this would be very tedious and I'd have to consider a lot of keyword variations to be very sure of the results.

I've used search query in the past by initially adding generic terms to the account (eg. 'xyz cameras' as a broad keyword would give me some sort of an idea as to what sort of models are being searched for with regards to that brand 'xyz').

Is there any other tool in the market that people use for this purpose? Any free tool that's available?

Thanks a lot!
