The best thing to do would be to start up again, under a different name. Google is really trying to stop malicious companies and this cull has probably got more to do with catching malware people and those using stolen cards etc etc.
Anyway sorry to hear that you've been banned. That's a real shame. On wards and upwards though.

Have you checked your AdWords login? I received the same type of email and it does not appear to be legitimate. Our account is still active and working...

Just got this lovely present from Google in my email tonight as well. I'm in shock. Deleted anything from my account that I thought might even remotely be considered 'bad quality' months ago and kept a close eye on it since just in case. All for not it seems. 5 years of advertising without an issue apparently means nothing.
I guess maybe I shouldn't be doing business with a company that treats it's faithful customers like this anyway but this is a tough one to swallow.

waypointer, are your ads actually running? Your QS and account stays the same but your ads stop displaying.
6:26 am on Dec 3, 2009 (gmt 0)
My sympathy to you...had the same thing happen just few minutes ago. However, upon logging into my Adwords account it seem like all is intact. I've also heard from a few other people (on other forums/blogs) that although they got the infamous email from Google, their accounts were still running.
Anyone have more information on this?

More people saying their accounts are still working but they got the ban:

zohan777 are your ads displaying when you search for them?

All my campaigns were on Pause and just re-activated them so too soon to know...

As I said on my reply on the Adwords forum, the ads are NOT showing (you can tell by using their ad preview tool), but the account doesn't look like there is anything wrong.
You can see my separate post here:
This is serious badness. Lose $100s of dollars a day, and my account has been going for probably 5-6 years.

What do you make of this part of the google email: <no emails, no exceptions>
<Email paraphrase: Google will no longer show ads for the recipient, will not accept future advertising, and will cancel any future accounts opened by the same person.>
Are these guys seriously saying I cannot open another account for the rest of my life with them? This is worse than Russia in the height of the communist regime. Plain insanity, let alone dumb business. I mean a criminal get a 2nd chance after doing some time....but advertisers are banned for life?

That seems to be what they are saying, yeah. The wording of their email strikes me as very odd... almost unprofessional (or at least extremely aggressive in tone - especially for Google).
Has anyone had prior emails in the past (warnings of any kind) that they would possibly expect something like this to happen in the future?
9:31 am on Dec 3, 2009 (gmt 0)
This part is unbelievable
<no emails, no exceptions>
<paraphrase: if you have a history of promoting certain types of sites that Google finds objectionable, your account is still subject to disabling even if you've stopped promoting those sites.>
So even if you corrected problems in your account, and tried to comply with guidelines, you still get banned.

So true Elric99. This is just unbelievable.
I remember having one little mix-up with Google before which I acted on as soon as I could contact someone who could tell me what was wrong with my account. That was many months ago. During that time of confusion all my campaigns were on hold and I lost 1000s of dollars.
I fixed the issue they had (which was sooooo small btw) and upped my ad spend 3-5X as much as before. There were no problems with my account. Good CTR, conversions, everything.
To say that even though you may have fixed the problems we will close down your account anyway is just moronic. :(

I received the email about one month ago and since then my account is banned. But somehow they thought that I would like it I to receive it again. Just for fun. So they have send me last night for the second time that my account -that was banned one month ago- is banned.
10:00 pm on Dec 3, 2009 (gmt 0)
copemedia, you are correct! All ads have stopped! Google has to realize they can't go long treating their loyal customers this way... I hadn't changed anything in my ads for over 4 months! Insane...

Dlocks, I remember you wanted the chance to get an appeal when your account got suspended. At the bottom of this email it says you can reply to it directly which is what AWA said you should do. So now you have a chance (maybe). Just curious if you have tried replying to either "banned" email and if you get a response.
10:26 am on Dec 4, 2009 (gmt 0)
Copemedia, when I first noticed that my account was not working (in the beginning of november) I did not yet received the 'your account is disabled' email. So back then I contacted support via de online chat service and asked why my account was not working anymore. They looked into it and noticed that my account was disabled because of violations and advised me to contact support and explain them what I did do in the months after the first warning to make sure my account was following the guidelines. So I did.
About 12 hours later after I found out my account was banned I received 'you are banned' email. So they first disabled my account, support from the chat could see in the system a notice why my account was banned but I received the email afterwards.
Anyway, I got a reply from support within a couple of hours (that is positive). In the email they told me they forwarded it to the policy team not sure how you call it in English) and that I would receive an update when the policy team had made a decision.
One day later I received a follow up. The decision was made and my account was banned because of multiple low page quality disaprovals. (although I did not submit any new ads after the first warning and removed all ads/campaigns that might have been a problem and checked on a daily basis all for keywords with QS <4 or 5 and deleted them if I found any. I explained this also in my first email to them). They also told me not to contact them anymore etc. etc. So I did not send another reply.
So yes, I had contact with support and they responded very quickly. That is the only plus I can think of. :)

They also told me not to contact them anymore etc. etc. So I did not send another reply.
I recently read about one person who did get their account back. They replied again, and then again, asking to communicate with a supervisor - and it worked. Try bugging them a bit more, it might be the key, however daft it sounds.

Yes I know, I think I was the one that posted about that guy. ;)

Perhaps I will send another reply but I do have a some disaproved ads in the past four years and I'm working as an affiliate (direct linking to merchant). So my case is not the same as the one that got his account back.
12:45 pm on Dec 4, 2009 (gmt 0)
Us Adsense geeks have been warning you Adwords geeks for years that this was going to happen to you the same way it happened to us. No warning, no real appeal, no rights to do anything except enjoy the rear-ending and watch your money float away.
Are we ready to fight, finally? G will do whatever they can get away with until we bring them to court like any other crappy corporation with bad policies and insurmountable proceedures.

I think it would be great to get these stories out to google's shareholders.

I think it would be great to get these stories out to google's shareholders.
And that would do what? They are the whole reason Google has taken on the new persona of being the new and improved evil empire. It's all about the money and now that Google is now the largest affiliate in the world with their products stuff, they own it.
They didn't buy performics just for the heck of it any more than they didn't launch caffeine prior to the Holidays "to save webmaster's stress" according to MC. Right, as if suddenly Google grew a heart......
Webmaster's made this monster and continued to feed it with their blind devotion and look what that got you.
3:03 pm on Dec 4, 2009 (gmt 0)
Well I'm just saying that if enough people show that google is turning away advertisers who spend mega bucks maybe at some point the shareholders would take notice. I know that if my team were turning away big bucks I would want some answers.
4:18 pm on Dec 4, 2009 (gmt 0)
congratulations, google has used your data against you all :)
here is what they have done.
1. let people spend money to promote affiliate products
2. let them optimize them to maximize their own R.O.I.
3. develop relationship as affiliate network with same affiliate products.(perfomix, etc)
4. kick out affiliates.
4. use data from number 2 in their own system.
5. maximize their own ROI.
anybody care to refute that now?
4:24 pm on Dec 4, 2009 (gmt 0)
fight with your money - use the other 2.
They actually give you real CS and will SPEAK to you.
4:50 pm on Dec 4, 2009 (gmt 0)
U've all been promoting your own disaster for several years now. If they can't compute with you they will buy you, unless they could see that there is another way around it. And there you have it.
For some several years now there is a drastic change that hits A.K.A GWeb in the way G Operates, right about when Shopping season is here.
Constant fear of loosing your source of income? Controling the fact of who says what you do is wrong? Whould that be G?

One of my accounts in MCC was banned. The others were not. I'm guessing they'll get around to banning them at some point though. You know what's really funny - in their email they say that sites that charge for "free" software will lead to immediate account disabling, yet they allow companies like this in their own affiliate network.
5:07 pm on Dec 4, 2009 (gmt 0)
I don't understand some of you. There have been many warning signs posted on WW regarding giving out Google your business information, your ROI, your sites, your stats, your affiliations, etc. and the conclusion was Google WILL use your money and your information against you. This is happening now with some users, other users will wake up in another time.
5:20 pm on Dec 4, 2009 (gmt 0)
-- This is happening now with some users --
This has been happening since ONE decided that capitalising on someones efforts was worth a while. That was more than 1.5 centuries ago. Main principal of Capitalism.
