AdWords Editor 6.5.0
Don't do it - Unless I am the only one with problems

I got the most recent version of editor and I have to say I absolutely hate it.

It runs about 50% as quick as the previous versions.
Even copying and pasting KW's and Ads has become a bit of a pain and a lot more care is needed.

Is anyone else having the same problem?

I'm back again with an update that I think will be of the 'good news' variety.

Yesterday afternoon, the AdWords Editor team emailed me asking If I'd post the information quoted below for you all. (Unfortunately, I missed that email until a short time ago, due to a focus on the Advertiser Feedback Report yesterday evening. Ironic, no?)

Quoting that message:

We're happy to report that the service release we promised last week is now available for download. Version 6.5.1 includes the following
four fixes:

- My Client Center accounts can now use the Keyword Opportunities tool.

- When installing AdWords Editor for the first time, it's now possible to accept the Terms of Service.

- Campaigns without ad groups can now be downloaded and posted.

- On Macs, long menu names (such as 'Export Selected Campaigns and Ad Groups') are no longer shortened.

Upgrading to version 6.5.1 is optional. If the issues above aren't relevant to you, there's no need for you to upgrade.

If you wish to download version 6.5.1, you don't need to uninstall version 6.5 first. Just visit [google.com...] and click 'Download AdWords Editor.' The update won't affect your comments or unposted changes.

Thank you for your feedback!

Please note that this information has also been posted on the AdWords Editor Forum - which is announcement only - on Google Groups. This forum is a good resource, in my opinion, for all you dedicated AE users. Although I suspect that as a Google employee I should not link to it per the charter for WebmasterWorld's AdWord forum, perhaps another member might want to do so.

On a related subject, I've learned that the AE team has committed themselves to watching this forum next time I am on vacation and they launch something. ;) (OK, actually they'll be watching during all launches.)

I hope you'll take that as real compliment to this community; what is said here matters. ;)

AWA - Awesome, now the keyword opportunities tool is working for MMC account holders within the editor.

Again, really happy to see that you guys at Google are actually paying attention to what's being said in the forums. Not sure if you monitor Twitter as well, but I would recommend it since lively and informative discussions on adwords can break out there as well. Not to mention the occasional question on LinkedIn answers.

Keep the innovation going!

This all sounds nice but 6.5.1 didn't solve my error "The procedure entry point sqlite3_prepare_v2 could not be located i nthe dynamic link library sqlite3.dll".

I've had this error ever since I upgraded to 6.5 and 6.5.1 didn't change it.

All I get back from AdWords support is templated emails asking for a ton of info, when to me this error message is pretty clear that there's something missing in the package.

I've almost given up on AdWords, and I've handed Google over $3k in the last 2 years via PPC.

asr_guy, have you tried completely uninstalling it and then reinstalling the newest version?

You might need to reboot your computer right after you uninstall before you install 6.5.1.

This is the case with Vista in my experience, but once this is done, it works fine.

Hope this helps...

6.5.1 installed and works ok for me and is back to normal speed too ! yay

I spent a week without editor on my laptop .. has been a VERY long week !

hopefully the editor development team realise the importance of editor to those that use it and understand our frustration when it doesn't work and take it as a sign of how much we value it (and take it for granted too) so thanks for the update guys/girls.. :)

Ok I uninstalled adwords editor, rebooted, applied ccleaner to clean up the registry, rebooted, applied some pending windows updates including sp3 for xp, rebooted, installed 6.5.1, SAME ERROR re sqlite3 - message pops up in a window about 3 or 4 times and AdWords Editor never starts.

Google support is asking me for screenshot, even though I've sent it to them. I sent it twice now.

Google support is also asking me to enable logging and export the account info but obviously they don't read my emails because I clearly explain that I can't get AdWords editor to even start so how can I turn on logging etc.?

It's been 2 weeks since I sent in my original ticket and support doesn't seem to be looking at that error message.

Very frustrating.

Finally I got 6.5.1 to work. Google support advised me to copy the file sqlite3.dll from the adwords editor folder to the windows/system32 folder. When I did that I got a message from Windows that there was an existing file there (was ~2 years old) so I replaced it with the new one from the adwords editor folder and the editor now works.

I suspect the Adwords Editor installer package assumes you don't already have that dll. Bad assumption.

Ok now I'm back to giving Google my AdWords money :)

Not sure if this is a bug or done on purpose? It's not possible to download Ended Campaigns into AdWords Editor. Somewhat frustrating! Means you have to go in AdWords and extend end dates (then pause campaigns!). This then lets the AdWords Editor to 'see' them.

asr_guy - I was having the same problem, but I did NOT have any other sqlite3.dll files. I downloaded a new one from sqlite, renamed the old one, and installed the dll from the sqlite site - voila!

I noticed that though both files had the same date, the one from the sqlite site was slightly larger.

Very glad you are back up and running, asr_guy. And not just because you are giving Google your money. I actually like it a lot when the product is just working as advertisers expect it to. ;)

tripleox, I think I have good news for you - which you can read about on this page from the AE Help Center:

* How do I hide or view deleted and ended items?
[google.com...]

Quoting that page:

Depending on your specified preferences, AdWords Editor hides or displays deleted and ended items in your account. You can also specify whether you want AdWords Editor to download deleted and ended campaigns and ad groups.

To view deleted items, follow these steps:

1. If you're using Windows, go to the Tools menu > Settings. If you're using a Mac, go to the AdWords Editor menu > Preferences.
2. Uncheck the box labeled Hide all deleted and ended items. Then uncheck the appropriate boxes below it.
3. Click OK.

To download deleted and ended campaigns and ad groups:

1. If you're using Windows, go to the Tools menu > Settings. If you're using a Mac, go to the AdWords Editor menu > Preferences.
2. Uncheck the boxes next to Hide all deleted and ended items and Hide deleted and ended campaigns.
3. Check the box next to Download deleted and ended campaigns and ad groups.
4. Click OK.
5. Go to the Account menu > Get Full Account. This downloads your account, including the deleted and ended campaigns and ad groups.

Best,

Hi,

I've installed the adwords editor for the first time today (Windows XP) so no upgrade & I cannot use it as I get the sqlite3.dll error message. I've searched on my C: drive & there are 2 copies - 1 in Google Adwords Editor folder (date 14/05/08) & another in the folder xulrunner (date 08/10/06). Should I be copying one somewhere else?

Thanks.

Had similar sqlite3.dll errors

Download and register latest copy of sqlite3.dll

Copy to xulrunner directory under Program Files \ Google \ Google Adwords Editor

Once you have done this I got two more dll errors on js3250.dll and mozcrt19.dll - copy these from a Program Files \ Mozilla Firefox to the xulrunner directory.

This then got Adwords editor running. To update it I needed to register vbscript.dll and jscript.dll

Hope this helps.

I am still running a 6.0.1 version on my key accounts and main computer.

I do run a more recent version on a different computer for comparisons (and because of the useful new features!)

It is great to see this tool evolving so quickly but it makes absolute sense to NOT trust these updates until they stabilize.
