Google AdWords Features I'd Like to See, #9
Continued. Share ideas for making your life easier

Allow AdWords targeting to Google Scholar. I have some biotech services clients for whom Google Scholar would be an excellent medium. I'd like to see this as a campaign option, like how contextual and partner network targeting is selected at the campaign level. The default should be OFF, as this would be an appropriate selection for only a small portion of advertisers.

Please fix the hourly reporting bug. If you try to run an hourly report the 'conversions' section of the reports disappear.

 6:49 pm on Feb 28, 2007 (gmt 0)

(ten pages, isn't it time to start another one of these?)

It'd be really nice if the ad serving option could be set at the adgroup level, rather than just at the campaign level. Or is there already a way to do that that I'm missing?

I've just copy/pasted your latest feedback into the Advertiser Feedback Report. There is plenty of time (and space in the report) for more. Anything else that you'd like to be in the report this week?

netmeg, I think my brain may be running at less than full capacity just now. Can you tell me little more about what you're looking for here? Do you mean targeting to particular regions, countries etc? Opting in and out of the networks? Or?

Woohooo! Just so long as there is one such thread hitting the top of the page from time to time, I'm a happy camper. ;) I love these threads. There is even a header included in the WebmasterWorld section of the template for the report which reads:

On those rare occasions when I have to delete that header (due to a lack of new feedback), I feel an actual twinge of regret. ;)

netmeg, I think my brain may be running at less than full capacity just now. Can you tell me little more about what you're looking for here? Do you mean targeting to particular regions, countries etc? Opting in and out of the networks? Or?

The specific option I was referring to is located in the Campaign Settings, and is called Ad Serving, and offers two options via radio button - one for Optimize (show better performing ads more often) and the other for Rotate: show ads more evenly.

I'm doing some testing of ads, which means I want to set them (at least temporarily) to the second option, but I don't necessarily want to do ALL my testing across an entire campaign at the same time. Nor do I necessarily want to start new campaigns and move things around (in some cases I'm close to the limit on campaigns, and in others, I'd as soon not lose years worth of history)

That's what I meant.

...That's what I meant

Got it. Thanks for the clarification, netmeg. ;)

Would it be possible to provide some summary information about the number and status of keywords at the AdGroup and Campaign Levels?

E.g. Provide a column with the total number of keywords that are active / inactive for the AdGroup or Campaign. This would be a great help in homing in on where there is a particular need to review bids, improve landing pages and/or subdivide AdGroups.

 4:33 pm on Mar 5, 2007 (gmt 0)

information on the front page telling the time the statistics are calculated through.

 4:47 pm on Mar 5, 2007 (gmt 0)

I have a line on the summary page of my MCC that says "Reporting is not real-time. The statistics on this page were last updated Mar 5, 2007 5:01:02 AM EST." - that's JUST for the summary page, though.

 5:55 pm on Mar 5, 2007 (gmt 0)

Hi netmeg,

I'm not at all sure that such a thing would be possible, ie different bits of your data update asynchronously as data pours through different bits of the system at different rates and with different hold-ups and pauses, and quite likely some data is handled with a higher priority than others.

(For example, on the AS side I'm pretty sure that the paid click data is handled with higher priority than the bulk impression data, which makes sense for a number of reasons.)

So you'd get a nice vague summary line to the effect: "Some of your data is bang up to date, and some of it may still be hours and hours old." B^>

 6:14 pm on Mar 5, 2007 (gmt 0)

I assume that's what it is - but it's already there.

 8:15 pm on Mar 5, 2007 (gmt 0)

this is all i get on the summary page

" Reporting is not real-time. Clicks and impressions received in the last 3 hours may not be included here"

 1:46 am on Mar 10, 2007 (gmt 0)

I forgot to post last night to say that the most recent ideas were copy/pasted into Thursday's Advertiser Feedback Report - but I assure you that they were.

This report will not be sent next week, as I'll be OOO for several days attending a conference. However, the following week I'll be sending out the 200th edition - and hope there is lots of feedback to include by then. So I hope you'll keep this thread (or one very like it) alive. ;)

As always, my sincere thanks.

Google needs to alert people if responses are coming out of India IP's. Some of the areas I am interpreting responses from for Adwords are notorious areas for spam. Many block these IP ranges. To many "cut and paste" replys also, which may indicate Google employees don't understand questions.

 5:11 pm on Mar 11, 2007 (gmt 0)

On the Edit Ad Group Bids view, include conversion data. This would make it easier to manage content network bids.

 4:24 pm on Mar 14, 2007 (gmt 0)

Include full set of report filter settings in downloaded reports.

Currently report header includes Date Range, Campaign and Keyword lists, plus Adwords type... but I'd like it to include any and all filters (such as greater than x # of impressions or clicks) as well.

 11:35 am on Mar 16, 2007 (gmt 0)

I would like the ability to opt certain AdGroups out of appearing on the content network. I think this would help both new and experienced users of the content network option.

 4:39 pm on Mar 16, 2007 (gmt 0)

On the new CPC site targeting it would be nice to be able to edit bids using an interface similar to the one for editing keyword bids. For that matter, this would also be nice for CPM bids, too.

 6:28 am on Mar 17, 2007 (gmt 0)

Some of your campaigns or Ad Groups may not appear in search results.
These items cannot be changed in bulk and must be edited individually:

Campaigns with position preference enabled

Please eliminate this restriction. Just because I have position preference enabled doesn't mean it's not useful to return keywords in these groups when filtering.

 1:16 am on Mar 18, 2007 (gmt 0)

In Adwords Editor, outside of downloading an entire account... you can only download a single campaign or a single ad group at a time.

It would be great to be able to download multiple campaigns or multiple ad groups at a time.

 3:08 am on Mar 23, 2007 (gmt 0)

I'll be including all your latest ideas/suggestions since March 8th into the Advertisers Feedback Report - and many thanks for those posts.

The report will go out in about 3 to 4 hours, so still time for those last minute additions. ;)

 6:01 am on Mar 23, 2007 (gmt 0)

Going, going, going...

 7:07 am on Mar 23, 2007 (gmt 0)

...and gone.

But there is always next week. ;)

Thanks again.

 9:12 am on Mar 25, 2007 (gmt 0)

When increasing bids via the Advanced Filters, the "New Status" column (at present) doesn't really show the "New" status... it shows the existing status.

Find and Edit Max CPCs
Filter results...

Old Max CPC = $0.30
New Max CPC = $0.50
New Status = Inactive for Search, Minimum Bid = $0.40

Shouldn't the "New" Status be 'Active'... if the "New" Max CPC is $0.50?

Having this column display the New / Proposed Status would be helpful.

 4:07 am on Mar 26, 2007 (gmt 0)

Wow that's a hot topic... and nice discussion

 8:58 pm on Mar 28, 2007 (gmt 0)

On CPC Site Targeting the sort by Avg. CPC function does not work.

 4:27 pm on Mar 29, 2007 (gmt 0)

that customization as our default display for future logins.

As of this morning, this seems to be working - if I customize the view once, I don't have to come back and re-customize it the next time I log in - it's still there. Big help - woo hoo!

 5:24 pm on Mar 29, 2007 (gmt 0)

Honestly I wanted to speak a lot here but as i keep reading i see everything is already posted.

Great thread.

Just a small point... I guess adword has good tools to run it properly.

 9:09 pm on Mar 29, 2007 (gmt 0)

Your latest ideas/suggestions/feature requests will be included in this week's Advertiser Feedback Report, which will go out in about 8 hours or so.

Still plenty of time (and room in the report) for more. ;)

 2:50 am on Mar 30, 2007 (gmt 0)

Two hours to go, plus or minus an hour or two. hahaha!

Anything else? ;)

 12:50 pm on Mar 30, 2007 (gmt 0)

Tools > My Change History:
Would be nice if you could see if a change was made using
the Adwords interface, Adwords Editor or Adwords API.
Sometimes would make debugging much easier.

(Or just show me a way how to find a solution for this problem ;)

 4:03 pm on Mar 31, 2007 (gmt 0)

Allow hourly reports to include conversion data.

Permission settings (view only, limited edits, etc) by login.
