November 2013 AdSense Earnings and Observations
Will we be giving AdSense thanks or will November be a Turkey?

October was quite a ride. What will this month bring? Who will give thanks, and who will feel like a Turkey?

I took my ads off my site for 3 days during some site edits and since then my daily average is half of what it was.

This might e where the prolem started.

What did those edits consist of? Did you change the text, even a little? If so, you may e getting a different set of ads that are getting clicks that Google thinks are questionable for some reason.

Ember's point about ad location is worth looking at too, did you move the ads, or place ads with a different size/format?

Click count and earnings stopped moving six hours ago. I doubt they'll move again in the last fifteen minutes either. Inspite of that, today has the second highest page views and earnings all month. Go figure.

I noticed about a week ago, my adsense earnings took a big dip.

I'm thinking people are just worried about money with the holidays. I know in my own house, just the extra grocery money for Thanksgiving dinner is hard. Let alone gift shopping etc.

Just the point of few of a mom with kids -- but talking with other moms at soccer games and school functions -- I don't hear anyone talking about business/jobs being GREAT! It's pretty much survival mode.

So far this November 2013 has been a good month. 38% increase in AdSense revenue vs last month, 34% increase vs November 2012 plus best one day earnings in over two years.

Things that may have helped. Google search has been kind, removed all link units, site redesign, removed most 160x600 ad units and lots of luck.

Worst month in history! I can't understand how every month could possibly get worse than the month prior, and yet it does! No matter what I seem to do, A/B testing, placement tests, size variations, etc.

Worst month in history!

Me too ... I cannot comprehend what Google gains out of me going from UPS (USD 10k+) per month to the point of, if I'm really lucky, USD 450 this month.

Google is the one that's slashed the earnings just to keep visitors on their site meanwhile not even displaying any ads alongside images ... yet.

In my niche their regular SERPs are fubard and many images are totally and utterly incorrect ... by that I mean correct image names however BS incorrect images! They couldn't build a knowledge engine around this garbage without someone taking action ... SURELY?

For me I expect from end November through December to be lower than normal however at this rate it may be time to remove G altogether and dispose of the angst they are creating me?

I do not mind being beaten by quality competition, I do not like being beaten by the total and utter garbage Google is purporting to be the "answer" to a searchers' query.

Last month UPS Club x 4, this month UPS Club x 3. There are fluctuations all the time. I don't use Google as a traffic source, they hate my sites (Panda crap) but love their Adsense share.

Since Hummingbird all got worse:
- traffic
- adsense revenue.

I see huge variation from day to day in eCPM + November was very bad.
Not "turkey day" is a glorious way to end a #*$!ty month.

You can say that today (27) is the last day of November.

After changing my ads on the 9th i've actually seen a pretty decent uptick in CTR. Overall earnings are UP November vs October. Traffic is up as well, but traffic has never been an issue for me.

just to provide a little balance, November '13 is on course for being my second best month ever since I began in June 2003. And I've had 5 out the 7 best months ever in 2013.

one observation though: this is with three to four times the page views I was getting back in the 2003-5 period. And the other metric that has changed most markedly is CTR...from 6% then to about 1.7% now.

@Chanandler, has the CPC stay relatively the same throughout? With the pv increased that much, does that mean your eCPM has gone down by 50% or more?

I only started full time for about an year and I'd love to learn more about the history.

yep, the eCPM has gone right down. Basically, I've had to work a lot harder to get back to those early levels. I think unless you are always working and adding quality content, your Adsense earnings will start to drop away.

Very weird behavior on Google's part. I wonder if some of these bots are affecting how long it takes them to verify stats.

November 25 - unusually high clicks, CTR and earnings - doesn't match the actual pageviews for that day.

November 26 - normal pageviews - NO CLICKS OR EARNINGS WHATSOEVER

November 27 - unusually high clicks, CTR and earnings - doesn't match the actual pageviews for that day.

Taken as a whole, I'm up over the three day period. But I've never seen them do that before; I haven't had a day with no clicks for years.

Something seems wrong
I receive daily emails from my visitors
but while these days are becoming the lower earnings ever
I'm receiving way more emails than ever
from people wanting to buy products and services

My network has very specific websites
so I don't understand what's going on
earnings low but emails going high...
I'm already working with affiliates...

Sorry to hear it netmeg. My reports have been all over the place as well. I'm convinced we're seeing consolidated and delayed reports as the norm these days. I just don't get why they don't cop to it.

netmeg, I've been seeing the same pattern. I sometimes think they've actually broken their software with all their dinking around with it.

I am under at least three separate bot attacks right now (that I know of - there might be more) I think the bot problems have gotten a lot bigger than anyone anticipated, and it wouldn't surprise me if Google could be overcompensating in trying to squash em down. Gotta look a lot worse on their end than it does on mine.

Out of curiosity, I just did a search here to find the post where I first mentioned my AdSense stats not making any sense. It was July 27, 2011! [webmasterworld.com...] There may be even earlier ones, but at least for me, AdSense reports have been messed up for 2.5 years. Maybe in 2014 they'll get it together.

I seem to have a page view issue, but can't complain from an earnings point of view, CTR holding nice, RPM holding nice.

I honestly still think Google are clever people (You may think get me a bucket) but IMO they are clever and guiding publishers who they consider good through this weird period.

Somehow November earnings are 30% up over October. I'd feel happier about that if it weren't for the 50% drop my account took from September. In short, earnings are still way down but at least the upward direction is good. Hopefully December will be even better!

I believe it's distracting, at least locally everyone is out on the streets going nuts due to crazy offers, never seen so many before. And besides not only being out... there is a lot more traffic than years before.
