The Stuck Thread - July 2013
When stats stop at the plex, does it make a sound?

Things start, slowdown and stop when it comes to the stats. July has been more start then stop for me, until today. CTR is completely stuck.

It can't be making any sound today since my stats have been stuck all day, certainly the last 9 hours, nothing's moved since I went out this morning, absolutely nothing ... I've had single clicks 3x what I've earnt so far!

No data at all this morning so far. None. Red banner saying that data is delayed, but I've never seen it this delayed before.

I'm seeing what looks like stuck reporting also. About 10% of where a normal day would be at this point. Site traffic looks normal. Time to move along with my normal day and check back later.

Impressions moving, clicks roughly normal, but EPC is lowest in many, many months. Will be interesting to see if it moves before the end of the day.

Is anybody else experiencing an issue with Google AdSense? It's nearly 4 o'clock in the afternoon and I'm stuck at four pence and just over 200 visitors to the site. I know this is not right, something seems to be stuck somewhere.

If you go to the Reports section, you see a nice, big message with a bright red background:
We're sorry, some data in this report is delayed, please try again later. There's no impact to ad serving or payments.

So I wake up to 188 page views and one click with a CPC that's over $4. Great!
2 hours go by and no more clicks and no more page views, even though the logs show that Google Media Partners is hitting the site as much as it ever does. Ads are showing just fine. This goes on for about 3 hours and then the page views start increasing again and the CPM ads start adding some pennies to the earnings. I figure during those 2 hours, Google under-reported page views by at least 200 and who knows how long before that.

If they are lying about page views, what else are they lying about?
My entire CTR has gone done to 1/10th of previous months, first by clawbacks, then by clicks. I'll bet I'm still getting 10x the clicks that they are reporting.

More and more, the evidence points to Google artificially limiting revenue to publishers. Since I started, I've noticed that CTR varies inversely to CPC. If I get some high value clicks, CTR goes down, and vice versa. Not every day (normal variation I suppose is allowed to have some effect), but more days than not. Whether they do it by serving poor performing ads to publishers that their algorithms don't like, or actually lie (as in the case above), or some combination, I don't know.

I'd like to see some independent group set up disposable sites and have teams of users clicking on ads and buying things to compare what Google reports and what is known to have happened.

They might be catching up some of those page views (4 hrs later). I'll compare to logs and report later...

Umm, periodically the stats stick for a few hours, and then they catch up. Mine are stuck too. And my revenue is *definitely* not limited - I've done more in the past ten days than I did for all of 2012 - and I had a pretty good 2012.

I suggest you look into smart pricing.

I'd like to see some independent group set up disposable sites and have teams of users clicking on ads and buying things to compare what Google reports and what is known to have happened.

As an advertiser, I sure hope that never happens. If Google detects it happening, it will be shut down immediately (and it should be).

Birchy, how long have you been running AdSense?

I see no evidence of that. There are fluctuations in revenue, to be sure, but I've been running adsense for 10 years and am doing better now than ever before (knock on wood).

If you really feel that Google is cheating and lying you need to stop using them as an advertiser and find one you trust.

As my second post states, it looks like I jumped the gun on this "proof". My best guess is that the high dollar click caused verification routines that froze reporting. Dunno why they freeze some times and clawback other times.

One morning's stats is simply not enough to back up your claim especially given the low number of page views you are reporting.

I'm not a G fan by any means but to accuse them as you do in the title of this post is extremely dodgy! And as you found out, you jumped the gun.

msg:4591906

Yeah, I figured that I had given them plenty of time to catch up, but such was not the case. I'd have deleted the post, if that had been an option.

I think my observation about the inverse relationship still holds, but I'll go back through the records and verify.
